ROB FORD TIES CHOW AND TORY FOR VOTER SUPPORT: FORUM RESEARCH POLL

It’s the best public opinion poll for Rob Ford since March.  Toronto’s embattled mayor is at a virtual tie for voter support with the two other election frontrunners; Olivia Chow and John Tory.  In a Forum Research survey conducted Monday, Chow had the support of 29 percent of respondents, Tory was at 28 percent with Ford at 27 percent support.  The two other main candidates Karen Stintz and David Soknacki are still polling in single digits.  This survey is a sharp contrast to the last poll by Nanos two and a half weeks ago, that found Ford 17 points behind Tory and 11 points behind Chow.

The Forum poll is the second consecutive survey suggesting Chow’s support is on the decline.  Until this one, she had not once been under 31 percent in any Forum poll since the election campaign began in January.  But the news isn’t all good for Rob Ford.  The survey shows little ability to substantially improve his numbers.  His approval rating was a dismal 33 percent, by far the worst of the five candidates.  And close to 60 percent of respondents  said he should resign, about the same as in previous polls.  Toronto’s municipal election is October 27th.
