A ban on American flights in and out of Israel has been lifted by the Federal Aviation Administration.  The pause was discontinued last night.  The temporary ban was first ordered on Tuesday after a Hamas rocked landed within 2 kilometres of the Tel Aviv airport.

While the directive applied only to U.S. carriers, Air Canada was among several foreign airlines that cancelled flights to Tel Aviv Tuesday and yesterday.  We’ll find out later today if Air Canada will resume flights to Israel.

As diplomats attempt to broker a cease-fire in Gaza, the fighting between Israel and Hamas rages on and the death toll continues to climb.  U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, in the region to pursue truce efforts, says some modest progress has been achieved.

Before the Hamas side is ready to accept a ceasefire, Israel, as well as the government in Egypt, will have to accept a Hamas demand to reopen passages between Gaza and the outside world.
