Canada’s unemployment rate has fallen to its lowest level in six years.

Statistics Canada says the economy created 43,100 jobs in October. That was enough to drop the unemployment rate to 6.5% from 6.8% in September.

It’s the second straight month of solid gains. 74,100 jobs were created in September, and the unemployment rate has fallen half a percentage point in the past two months.

Economists had predicted the economy would shed 5,000 jobs in October.

Ontario’s rate fell from 7.1% to 6.5%. Toronto’s rate is still well above the national average. It’s at 7.9%, down three-tenths from September.
