A museum in Switzerland plans to announce Monday what’s going to happen to a priceless collection of long-hidden art bequeathed to the museum – by German collector Cornelius Gurlitt.

Back in 2012, Bavarian authorities seized 1,280 items from Gurlitt’s apartment in Munich – while they were investigating a tax case.

Later, Gurlitt reached a deal with the German government allowing an investigation of the art horde – to check whether any of the works were looted from Jewish owners by the Nazis.

That deal is binding on any heirs.

Before Gurlitt died in May he designated Switzerland’s Kunstmuseum Bern as the sole heir to his collection – stipulating a six-month deadline for the museum to decide whether to accept the bequest.

A decision about the future of the artworks will be announced in Berlin on Monday – at a news conference held by the Swiss museum, Germany’s culture minister and Bavaria’s justice minister.
