Metrolinx has unveiled its new express train service to Pearson Airport.

Premier Kathleen Wynne and Transportation Minister Stephen del Duca were both on hand at the Pearson terminal to show off the new “UP Express” that will go into service in time for the Pan Am Games next year.

Wynne says it’s long overdue. She says many people arriving in Toronto for the first time are surprised that Pearson doesn’t have a dedicated rail link.

Metrolinx says the one-way fare will be $27.50. But discounts could lower that to 19 dollars. Airport employees will pay even less.

Many have been calling for a lower price. Councillor Josh Matlow points out that the full price is equivalent to the cost of a limo. But Metrolinx CEO Bruce McCuaig points out the rail service will only take 25 minutes, regardless of traffic.

Full details on the service are online here.
