Toronto’s new mayor met face to face with Prime Minister Stephen Harper last night at Pearson International Airport. John Tory sat down with the PM to talk about traffic and transit issues.  On Tory’s Twitter account, he tweeted:  “I raised with the Prime Minister the challenges of traffic and transit. We also discussed jobs, the economy, and housing. I look forward to many more discussions.”

Prime Minister Harper was in the area for a pre-budget roundtable discussion with the Retail Council of Canada in Mississauga.

Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne is still trying to get a meeting with the Prime Minister more than a year after they last sat down for a conversation.  Wynne released an open letter that she wrote to Stephen Harper this week.  In it, Wynne calls out Harper for refusing to meet with her for more than a year and urges an end to the strained and distant nature of their relationship.  The premier also says she’s keen to switch from confrontation to cooperation and hopes they can meet in the new year.  Relations between the two have not exactly been warm, with both firing shots across each others bow over pension plans, the provincial deficit and infrastructure spending.
