The economy appears to be a higher priority than fighting terrorism for Canadian voters,  by a long shot.

Ahead of the fall federal election, a new Nanos survey conducted for the Globe and Mail says 90 percent of respondents feel Canada’s fiscal health is more important than other issues including terrorism and national security.  Nine in ten of those surveyed say the party or leader with the best plan for the Canadian economy will be more important in determining who wins than than the party with the best plan to fight terrorists.

Only four percent of Canadians surveyed said fighting terrorism is more important than the economy.

The results come at a time when the two main topics on Parliament Hill are related to terrorism.  Members of Parliament are debating the government’s anti-terrorism legislation Bill C-51, and a majority of MPs (all Conservatives) voted on Monday to renew and expand Canada’s military mission against ISIL, including bombing in Syria.
