The elder-abuse investigation regarding writer Harper Lee – has ended.

Earlier this year, the 88-year-old author of “To Kill A Mockingbird” made news news with the announcement that she would be publishing a new book – but some people in her hometown of Monroeville, Alabama doubted whether the author was indeed competent – to give her consent to the publication.

Alabama Securities Commission Director Joseph Borg said his agency looked into the matter – at the request of the Department of Human Resources.

And he says Lee was able to answer questions about the book to investigators’ satisfaction.

An arm of HarperCollins Publishers announced that Lee’s new novel, “Go Set a Watchman,” will be released in July.

Harper Lee lives in an assisted-living facility in Monroeville.
