BALTIMORE UNDER A TENSE CALM AFTER THE ORIOLES AND BALTIMORE SYMPHONY MAKE THE BEST OF IT

The tense calm held again last night in Baltimore where lawlessness broke loose on Monday.

It was essentially a normal night with the police reporting no major problems.

More could be learned this week about the case of Freddie Gray, who’s death sparked Monday’s rioting.  The Washington Post quotes a prisoner who was in the police transport van with Grey as saying that he could hear the 25 year old banging against the wall.  Investigators say that Gray suffered a spinal injury that led to his death in custody earlier this month.

But life is really far from normal in Baltimore.  At Camden Yards yesterday, the public was not allowed in to see the Orioles-White Sox game over concerns rioting could break out.

The play by play announcers had some fun with the novelty of the situation.  Check it out here.  The Orioles won the game 8-2.

And the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra played a free outdoor concert as tensions appeared to be easing after the riots.  Some of the ensemble’s musicians donated their time, saying this would be their reply to violence, “to make music more intensely, more beautifully and more devotedly than ever before.”
