Let the summer theatre season begin!

The Stratford Festival’s season opens tonight with Shakespeare’s iconic tragedy “Hamlet,” directed by Artistic Director Antoni Cimolino – and starring Jonathan Goad in the title role.

Five more productions open this week at Stratford – there are two Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals, “The Sound of Music” and “Carousel,” as well as the world première of Michael Healey’s adaptation of Friedrich Dürrenmatt’s “The Physicists” -and the inspirational production of “The Diary of Anne Frank,” by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett, adapted by Wendy Kesselman.

There’s also Shakespeare’s sweeping drama “The Adventures of Pericles.”

The 2015 season also features more than 150 events at the Stratford Festival Forum, which focuses on the theme of Discovery and the Eureka moments that can change a character’s – or a person’s – life forever.
