Google is increasing your privacy online.  The world’s most popular online search engine has unveiled a new hub for privacy and security settings across all its services to help you feel in control of your data. It’s seen as an answer to consumer concerns, and follows a similar move by Apple.

Our financial analyst Kim Parlee of TD Wealth Management says, “if you use Google for your gmail or Google Maps…you can now go into their hub and basically start turning off some or the stuff, or seeing what they’re tracking at the same time…to give people more control over what it is they’re using and what information they’re giving.”

There’s also a pair of step-by-step checkups for privacy and security settings  (similar to Facebook’s Privacy Checkup tool) that helps users get an overview of their current choices.  You can check what devices are logging into your account, for example, or stop Google from recording information such as your location history.
