GETTING A BUSY SIGNAL AT REV-CAN? YOU'RE NOT ALONE

You may be one of these unlucky callers.

New figures tabled in Parliament show almost seven out of every 10 callers to Revenue Canada are treated to a busy signal – because the lines are overwhelmed.

In fiscal year 2014-15, approximately one-third of  the 60 million calls the tax agency receives – went through on the first try.

But the remaining two-thirds, or almost 41 million calls, got a busy signal – because the CRA’s phone system doesn’t allow every call to connect.

The figures were tabled in response to an Order Paper question from Liberal MP Ralph Goodale – who says budget cuts at the CRA, which include fewer front-line staff to handle inquiries – have eroded Revenue Canada’s ability to meet top service standards for Canadians.
