The personal data of an estimated 18 million people – current, former and prospective U.S. Federal employees – was affected by a cyber-breach at The Office of Personnel Management.
That’s more than four times the 4.2 million people the agency has acknowledged – and the number is expected to grow.
James Comey, Director of the FBI, gave the estimate of 18 million – during a recent closed-door briefing to Senators.
Comey was using internal data from The Office of Personnel Management.
People affected may include citizens who applied for U.S. government jobs – but who didn’t end up,working for the government.
