Eugenie Bouchard’s nosedive continues.

The 21-year old has lost her opening round match at the All England Club in straight sets, 7-6, 6-4, to a Chinese qualifier, Ying-Ying Duan, ranked 117th.

Bouchard leaves Wimbledon with whimper after having been runner-up just last year, as well as the Australian and French Open semi-finalist, finishing 2014 ranked number 7.

Heading into today’s match, she was number 12 in the rankings but will fall out of the top 20, maybe further, depending on how others do.

Bouchard’s fall seems to have coincided with her split wtih long-time coach Nick Saviano last November and the hiring of Sam Sumyk.

Today’s loss was her 11th in her past 13 matches.

A Grade 2 abdominal tear suffered a week ago may have been been a factor.

”I felt very unprepared … but I’m the one who made the decision to play.”
