Toronto mayor John Tory is meeting today with representatives from the taxi industry and Uber following an Ontario judge’s ruling on Friday that blocked the city from shutting down the ride sharing company.

The city was after for a permanent injunction on the company’s operations, arguing Uber is a taxi company and must abide by the city’s licensing regulations.  Uber said it was merely connecting passengers and is a communications company, not a cab or limousine company.  But Superior Court Judge Sean Dunphy dismissed the application, saying there is no evidence the company is operating as a taxi broker, or that it breached city bylaws.  The CEO of co-op cabs is calling on the mayor to take action.  If the dispute isn’t settled, a number of taxi drivers are threatening to disrupt the Pam Am Games which begin Friday in Toronto.
