Two wildfires in northern Saskatchewan have merged – creating a blaze five times larger than the province’s biggest city.

The blaze near the town of La Ronge covers 95,000 hectares – compared to Saskatoon’s 17,000.

People in Saskatchewan who have been forced from their homes over the past few weeks – continue to show up at evacuation centres looking for help.

Meanwhile — Parks Canada fire crews, along with helicopters and heavy equipment, are fighting a wildfire in Alberta’s Jasper National Park.

Officials say the blaze has grown substantially, and staff are working to get visitors out of the area.

The popular park remains open, but with a complete ban on campfires.
