Heat alerts have been issued across southern Ontario, as temperatures are expected to soar to highs of more than 30 degrees throughout the weekend.
Environment Canada issued heat warnings for much of southern Ontario on Saturday, including Toronto, Hamilton, Barrie, London, Niagara, Windsor and Waterloo.
Public Health units in Toronto, Hamilton and Waterloo have also issued heat warnings by their city’s respective medical officers of health.
Police are reminding people not to leave children unattended in cars, and the Humane Society reminds people that a few minutes locked in a car on a day like today can prove fatal for the family pet..
Officials say temperatures will peak in the 30- to 32-degree range on Saturday and Sunday, with overnight minimum temperatures expected in the 20- to 23-degree range.
Humidex values will also be high throughout the weekend, making temperatures feel closer to 40 degrees.
Temperatures are expected to cool off slightly on Monday, with highs expected in the upper 20’s with less humidity.
