A former member of the Federal Conservative Caucus has failed in her bid to secure the Liberal nomination in the Eglinton-Lawrence Riding.

Eve Adams, who crossed the floor of the House to join the Liberals last February was seeking the nomination to carry the Liberal banner into the fall election in an effort to unseat Conservative Finance Minister Joe Oliver.

However party members in the riding apparently didn`t like the fact that Adams has no history in the riding and doesn`t live there.

Adams was soundly defeated Sunday in the Liberal nomination battle, falling to lawyer and former riding association executive Marco Mendicino, the only other candidate in the hotly contested race.

Sunday’s result means Mendicino, 42, a married father of two, will now face off against Finance Minister Joe Oliver in the election, which must be held no later than Oct. 19.
