If you bought pre-cooked chicken wings recently at Safeway you might want to take a closer look at the label. Safeway has recalled four types of its store-packaged wings, due to bacteria contamination.

The cooked wings may contain a toxin produced by Staphylococcus bacteria, according to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

The products covered in the recall are:

• Party Pack Chicken Wings Hot Salt N Pepper.
• PPK Wings Mix flavours Hot.
• Pinty’s Wings Salt and Pepper Hot.
• Pinty’s Wings Salt and Pepper Cold.

The affected products were sold up to and including Aug. 14.

The Food Inspection Agency says the recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the store although  there have been no reported illnesses associated with these products as of Sunday.

 The Staphylococcus  bacteria are not destroyed by salt or by cooking in high temperatures, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Common symptoms of Staphylococcus poisoning are nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramping and fever. Headaches, muscle cramps and changes in heart rate and blood pressure are also possible in severe cases.
