A rapid response network is being established – to battle the spread of invasive species in the province.

The Ontario Invasive Plant Council is putting together an early detection network – which involves training and equipping people to detect and control invasive plants and insects.

There’ll be four pilot areas in southern and northern Ontario.

They include the Credit Valley Conservation and Halton Conservation Watershed – as well as the Sault Ste. Marie and Thunder Bay area.

Invasive plants and insects come into to Canada from other parts of the world.

If the species is allowed to establish itself – it will take over ecosystems, altering the environment and the economy .
