The ZoomerPlex was the site of a federal election campaign announcement by Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau today. CARP President and ZoomerMedia Founder Moses Znaimer welcomed the special guest who made a six point promise to improve retirement security if he’s elected October 19th.
He started with a pledge to restore the age of eligibility for Old Age Security and the Guaranteed Income Supplement back to 65. Trudeau also plans to immediately boost the Guaranteed Income Supplement for single low income seniors by almost $1000 a year.
And to applause from CARP members, Trudeau promised to enhance the Canada Pension Plan.
“This is something that experts and provincial leaders have been calling on for years,” Trudeau explained, “but Stephen Harper has outright rejected every attempt to strengthen the CPP.”
Trudeau also told the ZoomerPlex gathering of CARP members that a Liberal government would bring in a seniors price index to ensure old age security keeps pace with inflation. And the Liberal leader is promising to extend compassionate care leave.
Moses Znaimer will offer his reaction to today’s announcement as the first guest on Zoomer Radio’s Goldhawk Fights Back at AM 740 and 96.7 FM in downtown Toronto after Jane Brown’s 11am news.
Our Libby Znaimer will have a feature report in the news on both Zoomer Radio and Classical FM later today.
