PROVINCE INCREASES FUNDING FOR SEX ASSAULT CENTRES

She says it may be a lofty goal to end sexual violence against women, but the premier adds she wants Ontario to be a place where everyone’s safe and people look out for each other.
Kathleen Wynne says she’s never met a woman who has not experienced verbal, physical or sexual assault and vows to do all she can to try to put an end to it, once and for all.
While visiting a sex assault centre in Guelph Thursday, she announced the government will increase funding for all 42 such centres in Ontario by $1.75-million a year to $14.8-million annually.
Asked if she’d ever been assaulted, the premier got emotional and said fortunately she had not, but talked about ”near misses” that every woman has dealt with, including herself when she was in her mid-20s.
