Fordham University has taken back an honorary degree it gave Bill Cosby in 2001.
The New York co-educational research university cites sexual assault allegations against Cosby – and the comedian’s admission that he obtained quaaludes – to give to women with whom he hoped to have sex.
The University Board of Trustees voted Thursday to rescind the degree – considering Cosby’s statements in a now-public court deposition – wherein Cosby admitted having extramarital relationships with several women – including some who now accuse him of sexual assault.
Fordham has never before rescinded an honorary degree.
It says as a Jesuit university, “Fordham could no longer stand behind the degree it had bestowed upon Mr. Cosby.”
Cosby has never been charged with a crime.
