Justin Trudeau is wasting no time in getting down to work.

After a landslide win on Monday in the federal election, Trudeau says he will be sworn in as Canada’s 23rd prime minister on November 4th, at which time he will also unveil his new, and much smaller, cabinet.

“At that point, we will have access to the wide range of levers of power of the government. Until that point, our constitution obligations is that we have a single prime minister, and on November 4th, it becomes me, ” Trudeau explained in his first post-election news conference.

Trudeau also said he’ll recall parliament as soon as seems reasonable, but offered no timeline.

The Prime Minister-Elect also addressed people around the world whom he said may have had difficulty recognizing the Canada of old during a decade of Conservative rule under Stephen Harper.

“I have a simple message for you. On behalf of 35-million Canadians, we’re back!” Trudeau said to applause.

Numbers from the election show that the 184 seat majority the Liberals won could have been even greater, save for dozens of close races. Susan Eng of CARP – A New Vision of Aging – believes the Liberal surge was rooted in older voters.

“It happens that Mr. Trudeau made more of an effort I would say to actually come to CARP headquarters and make his pitch directly to CARP members who were assembled and to really be front and centre about seeking out the seniors’ vote frankly, and when you think of an ad like Hurricane Hazel and having that play during the Blue Jays’ game, and Hockey Night in Canada and The National, you know very well that they spent big money to target our demographic,” Eng told Zoomer Radio’s Goldhawk Fights Back.
