Ontario’s Premier has received reassurance from Prime Minister-Elect Justin Trudeau that the federal government will assist her government with implementation of the Ontario Retirement Pension Plan.
Kathleen Wynne hosted Trudeau for a short meeting in her office at Queens Park yesterday before both attended the funeral of former Canadian diplomat Ken Taylor.
Word from Wynne’s media relations director after the meeting is that “the federal government will work with Ontario officials on the registration and administration of the ORPP…and the ORPP is being designed to integrate with any future enhancement of the Canada Pension Plan.”
The former Conservative Finance Minister Joe Oliver and outgoing Prime Minister Stephen Harper adamantly opposed assisting the Ontario Liberals with administrative support for Wynne’s plan because they felt it would take money from workers and their families, kill jobs and damage the economy.
Wynne hopes to implement the Ontario Pension Plan starting in 2017. It’s a program supported by members of CARP – A New Vision of Aging.
