The city of Santa Monica will save their popular peace sculpture. The city will spend up to $275,000 to save the peace monument, named “Chain Reaction.”.
The sculpture is a 26-foot-tall work shaped like an atomic mushroom cloud.
The anti-war sculpture was created by the late Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist Paul Conrad of the L.A. Times.
Since being built in 1991 kids have been climbing on the sculpture, damaging the stainless steal tubing and fiberglass chains that shape it.
The Times reports the plan approved this week will add city money to private donations to aide in the repair.
