Paramedics from Toronto, Peel Region, Vancouver and Richmond B.C., are to conduct a drug study that may improve outcomes for those who suffer strokes.

At the center of the clinical trial is a drug called NA-1, which limits brain damage if a stroke occurs.
Eligible patients will either receive NA-1 or a placebo.
Results could help researchers assess the effect of speedy treatment by paramedics before patients even reach a hospital.
A spokesperson for Stroke Services B.C. says if NA-1 reduces the devastating impact of strokes while a patient’s on the way to hospital, that could have tremendous impacts on recovery and rehabilitation.
Nearly two-million brain cells die each minute following a stroke, making quick assessment and treatment crucial.
