A new report by Ontario’s Auditor General validates the frustrations of older Ontarians and their families who need access to high quality homecare.

This is the viewpoint of the Zoomer advocacy group CARP – A New Vision of Aging.

The AG Report finds that access to homecare is fraught by long wait times, services are dependent on location and patients in many cases are not receiving appropriate levels of services. Bonnie Lysyk also outlined in her report that homecare services delivered in Ontario are systemically underperforming in a number of crucial areas, despite years of government reports, promises of improvement and increased funding.

CARP Executive Vice President Susan Eng says “CARP members welcome government initiatives to improve home care…but in order to fulfill the promise of home based and community care to avoid institutional care, then structural and funding changes are needed immediately.”

Further reaction from CARP on the AG Report will come up after today’s 11am news on Zoomer Radio’s Goldhawk Fights Back.
