Antidepressant use during pregnancy – could increase the risk of the baby being born with autism spectrum.
That’s the suggestion from a study by the University of Montreal which found that taking antidepressants of any kind while pregnant – boosts the risk that a child will be diagnosed with A-S-D by age seven.
The drugs include Prozac, Zoloft and Celexa.
But the study suggests the risk doubles with drugs known as “selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors,” or S-S-R-Is, when they are taken by women during the second and third trimesters.
