A panel of experts on doctor assisted dying says the practice should be publicly funded and available to people at any age once it’s legal sometime next year.
Those are two of dozens of recommendations made in a report for the Ontario government Monday
The panel was established back in August to come up with guidelines for legislation surrounding physician assisted dying that has to be in effect by February.
Ontario health minister Dr. Eric Hoskins says he will take the recommendations under advisement as he goes forward in drafting the bill.
He said there will be 9 public meetings across the province in the new year to discuss the bill, but he wouldn’t say where they would take place.
A similar report advising the federal government is expected to be tabled Tuesday
Last year the top court in the country struck down a ban on doctor assisted death.
