An oral hearing will be held next month at the Supreme Court of Canada as it considers whether to grant the federal government’s request for a six-month extension to come up with a new law.
Lawyers for the Trudeau government will have 30-minutes to make their argument January 11.
Those against an extension will also have half-an-hour to state their case.
Last February, the country’s top court found the criminal code provisions banning doctor-assisted death were unconstitutional.
The government was given one year, until February 2016, to come up with a new law.
