Broadway successfully brought the curtain down on 2015 – and began the new year with a bang – experiencing the best attended and highest grossing week in its history.
But the year 2015 saw receipts at the box office – and overall attendance – dipping from the previous year.
The Broadway League reports that the total 2015 gross was $1.354 billion – with total attendance at just under 13 million people.
Even though new shows like “Hamilton” got much of the attention last year, it was an old favourite that actually won the title of highest-grossing show of 2015 – The Lion King.
That makes it the third year in a row that the Disney show has won the title.
