A construction site manager has received a three-and-a-half year sentence after four men died when a scaffold collapsed at a Rexdale highrise Christmas Eve 2009.

During sentencing, Justice Ian MacDonnell said Vadim Kazenelson was aware it was not safe, but still allowed his workers to board the swing stage that gave way.
Kazenelson is appealing his conviction and has been granted bail pending that appeal.
Outside the University Avenue courthouse, Ontario Federation of Labour President Chris Buckley praised the ruling.
”Every employer should have shivers up their spines today.  Bosses cannot expect that it’s all about money.  Families have been destroyed here.  This is not just about profits any longer.  This is about health and safety of workers.”
