It’s the first official visit to Toronto City Hall of a sitting prime minister since Toronto’s amalgamation.
Justin Trudeau plans to meet with Mayor John Tory today at 12:15pm in a meeting scheduled to last 45 minutes. The two will take questions from reporters following the meeting. The last time a prime minister visited City Hall, Jean Chretien attended a tribute to Joe Foti in council chambers held by then Toronto Mayor Mel Lastman.
Tory tweeted late yesterday afternoon, that “investing in Toronto is the best thing Justin Trudeau can do to build the economy, help people and fight climate change.”
It’s not clear what’s on the agenda, but last month, Mayor Tory said he’s optimistic that Trudeau’s government will follow through on the funding promised to big cities during the election campaign to help build green infrastructure and improve transit.
Before his meeting at City Hall, the Prime Minister will be at the MaRS Discovery District where the Centre for Commercialization of Regenerative Medicine says “a major announcement with a global impact” will be made.
