The Alberta MP and former cabinet minister, will serving as the Tories interim leader until the party chooses its next leader May 27, 2017.
She was elected after Stephen Harper stepped down on election night.
The chair of the Leadership Election Organizing Committee (LEOC), Dan Nowlan, says ”By choosing May 27, 2017, this will allow for a time frame that not just provides an exciting and competitive race for our members and all Canadians, but keeps it an open and fair contest for all potential candidates.
In order to vote in the PC leadership election, you must hold a valid party membership.
Other decisions surrounding the rules, candidate application and other matters will be discussed in the coming weeks with any announcements coming from the LEOC.
Several current MPs are believed to be contemplating a run, along with former parliamentarians and at least one high-profile outsider – businessman and TV personality Kevin O’Leary.
