The Canadian Medical Association has released its recommendations aimed at helping Ottawa come up with legislation on doctor-assisted death.
Key issues addressed by the CMA include assessing patient eligibility, physicians’ responsibilities and how to balance doctors’ freedom of conscience with timely access to the service.
However, the group Dying with Dignity takes issue with one recommendation suggesting no doctor should be forced to help patients end their lives.
The group’s CEO says desperate patients shouldn’t have to go out on their own to find a doctor willing to end their suffering.

The Supreme Court of Canada says legislators have until June to come up with new laws surrounding doctor-assisted dying.
