A new poll on physician-assisted dying shows an overwhelming majority – eight in ten Canadians – agree that those with a terminal condition, such as dementia should be allowed to consent to assisted death in advance.

The poll was commissioned by Dying With Dignity Canada.

CEO Wanda Morris calls the results ”astonishing,” adding ”while legislators debate new rules for physician-assisted dying, ordinary Canadians have made it clear they support laws that put patient choice front and centre.”
More than 25-hundred were surveyed for the poll, conducted earlier this month, almost a year to the date the Supreme Court of Canada struck down the Criminal Code ban and gave Parliament one year to come up with a new law.
But that deadline was recently extended four months until June 6th.
