FONER WINS $50,000 AWARD FOR UNDERGROUND RAILROAD BOOK

Another honour for Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Eric Foner.

It’s a $50,000 award from the New-York Historical Society.

Foner’s “Gateway to Freedom; The Hidden History of the Underground Railroad” has received The American History Book Prize.

Previous winners of the award include Ron Chernow, Robert Caro and Doris Kearns Goodwin.

Eric Foner is 73 – and won the Pulitzer in 2011 for “The Fiery Trial; Abraham Lincoln and American Slavery.”

He has also won the Bancroft Prize for ”The Fiery Trial” and his landmark work on the post-Civil War era, ”Reconstruction.”
