You may have seen it by now if your daily travels take you to Chester subway station – The Artists Newsstand.
Since April, a former news stand has become a hybrid performance space/gallery and artist book outlet.
Most performances last about 15 minutes, and caters to commuters and the surrounding community.
Next week the newsstand will be throwing a 50th birthday party for the Bloor-Danforth Line which opened February 25th, 1966.
The party kicks off at 4 pm, with a performance from theatre artist Moe Angelos, followed by a family-friendly burlesque show, a DJ playing songs from the 1960’s and birthday cake.
The event will also explore what was newsworthy in 1966 – including the Vietnam War, the rise of second wave feminism and the founding of the Black Panther Party.
