The Toronto Zoo has a brand new baby Rhino. His mom, Ashakiran brought him into the world Wednesday night.

 

It bodes well for the conservation of the species, currently listed as vulnerable with only about two thousand of them left in all the world.

Ashakiran, who was removed from public viewing in mid January, went through a pregnancy of 16 months.

Her calf appears to be healthy and feeding well which is good news because the first thirty days of his life will be critical.
