A small gathering of about 40 friends and family paid their respects to one of the most celebrated authors of all-time.
Harper Lee – who wrote the novel To Kill a Mockingbird – was laid to rest Saturday at a church in her home town of Monroeville, Alabama.
Harper Lee
To Kill a Mockinbird was released in 1960 to critical acclaim, winning a pulitzer prize for shining a light on racial inequality in the south.
It later became a movie with the same name.
Gregory Peck played lawyer Atticus Finch in the movie who defends a falsely accused black man.
He won the Oscar award for best actor for the role.
Harper Lee also authored the novel “Go Set a Watchmen” and was published last year.
Lee died Friday at the age of 89.
