It will soon cost less to ride the Union Pearson Express (UPX), more than half as much as it does now.
The province is moving to cut fares on Toronto’s airport train and make it more of a commuter option rather than a premium business model.
Effective March 9, the base fare of $27.50, will be dropped to $12 a ride.
And the current $19 for riding the UP Express with a Presto card will be reduced to $9.
Under the plan, riders using the UP Express to travel between the three stations along the line and not to the airport, would also see the fares decline to the same price as the corresponding GO Transit fares.
The governing Liberals at Queen’s Park have been facing criticism over the low ridership on the UP Express.
