A judge has ruled that an Alberta woman with a terminal illness – can have the doctor-assisted death she’s been requesting.

The Calgary woman cannot be identified due to a publication ban.

She is in the final stages of ALS – also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

According to the court ruling the woman has, at most, six months to live –  and wants to end her suffering.

She plans to die with the help of a doctor in Vancouver.

The Supreme Court has given the federal government more time to write a new law on physician-assisted death, with an exemption in the meantime for anyone who wishes to end their suffering.

The government has until June 6th to present its new legislation.
