Ontario’s Financial Accountability Office says the Wynne government is relying on “relatively optimistic” assumptions for revenue growth – in its budget projections.

Chief economist David West says the Liberals will probably find it challenging – to maintain balanced budgets beyond 2017-18.

In the recent budget, the government said that it plans to eliminate the 5.7-billion-dollar deficit in 2017-18, and expects to stay in the black the following year.

The F-A-O’s West points out that – while the government projects total revenue to increase an average 5.1 per cent a year to 2017-18, that number is much higher than the average annual growth over the past four years.
