Right now, the Queen is the only woman who appears on Canadian currency.
But that will change in a couple of years.
On International Women’s Day, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced the Bank of Canada’s looking for a woman to put on a bill expected in 2018.
Finance Minister Bill Morneau hopes the new note will give women ”constant reminders that they are not only Canada’s future but a celebrated part of our history.”
The central bank’s asking you to make submissions on its website until April 15.
The women nominated must be Canadian (by birth or naturalization), have ”demonstrated outstanding leadership, achievement or distinction in any field, benefiting the people of Canada, or in the service of Canada,” deceased for at least 25 years and not fictional.
The government and Bank of Canada have not indicated which denomination the woman’s face would be featured on.
