Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and President Barack Obama talked about climate change, trade and border security during their morning meeting in the Oval Office.

In remarks that followed the closed door discussion, Trudeau promised to reduce methane emissions in the oil and gas industry by nearly half by 2025.

Methane’s estimated to be at lest 20 times more potent than carbon dioxide as a climate warning agent.

Obama says the two countries will proceed with full implementation of long-planned systems to track border entry and exit information from travellers.

Nearly two years behind schedules, the measures are intended to help stem the flow of foreign fighters to conflicts in the Middle East.

Both leaders also announced plans to share more no-fly list information and to move ahead with planned customs pre-clearance initiatives including Toronto’s Billy Bishop airport.

The president said he’s accepted the prime minister’s invitation to address Parliament during a visit to Canada that’ll coincide with this June’s so-called ”Three Amigos” summit including Trudeau, Obama and Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto.
