Warner Brothers is doing its bit to make Hollywood more diverse.
The powerful media company is launching a program to provide five emerging directors from underrepresented groups with mentoring and approximately $100,000 to produce a short film – that will be viewed by agents, producers and studio executives.
Applications for the program will be accepted some time before July – with a nine month fellowship beginning in the autumn.
Warner Brothers president of worldwide production, Greg Silverman says the studio needs to broaden the pool of talent coming into the Hollywood system.
Warner Brothers is a unit of Time Warner – and is the only major studio in Hollywood led by a person who is non-white, CEO Kevin Tsujihara.
