The province’s health minister says high-billing medical specialists – are sucking funding away from Ontario family doctors – and other health care priorities.

There are no caps on billings for Ontario’s doctors – and Eric Hoskins says they are the highest paid physicians in Canada – with an average salary of $360 thousand dollars a year.

And Hoskins says some specialists earn several times that amount – so the government must find hundreds of millions of dollars more – to pay for other vital services, like home care.

The Ontario Medical Association’s president argues that if the government wants a new deal with doctors – it should agree to binding arbitration
