OSCAR WINNER PATTY DUKE DIES AT 69

Actress Patty Duke, who won an Oscar at 16 for ”The Miracle Worker,” has died from complications of a ruptured intestine.

She portrayed Helen Keller in the 1962 movie
opposite Anne Bancroft as teacher Annie Sullivan.
Duke also became the youngest at that time to have a TV series bearing her name.

”The Patty Duke Show,” about two identical-looking cousins – one American (Patty Lane) and one English (Cathy Lane) ran for three seasons.
She was nominated for an Emmy in 1964.
Three years later she countered that squeaky-clean image, playing a pill-popping alcoholic in ”Valley of the Dolls.”

She wrote an emotional 1989 autobiography, ”Call Me Anna,” in which she revealed she’d suffered for years with manic depression.
Born Anna Marie Duke, she adapted it the following year for a TV movie that she also produced and starred in.
