An ambitious plan to spread a cycling network across Toronto will be debated today at a meeting of the city’s public works and infrastructure committee. Councillors on the committee will look at various options for timing and funding.

The plan features a total of 525 kilometres of new cycling infra-structure, which adds up to 1050 kilometres of cycle lanes when you factor in each direction.

The proposal would see feasibility studies for bike lanes or cycle tracks extended on Yonge Street from Front to Steeles, along Bloor from Dundas West to Sherbourne, and farther along Danforth Avenue from Broadview to Kingston Road.

There would also be bike lanes on Jane Street, Kingston Road, Kipling, Midland and the Gatineau Trail to the Waterfront Trail, and Lake Shore Boulevard West would also see a bike path between Mississauga and the Humber River as part of the plan.

Annual funding of $20-million would allow delivery of all of the projects in 10 years.
